Paint Like the Impressionists

Join me for a exciting, hands-on painting day where we’ll dive into the world of the Impressionists — learning to paint in a bold, expressive way while building your painting skills.

In this one-day workshop, we’ll look closely at how the Impressionists used brushwork, colour and layering to create their beautiful, light-filled paintings. I’ll guide you through key techniques including:

Confident brush control
Expressive mark making
Building layers
Colour relationships (and how to make your colours sing!)
How to loosen up and trust your process

I’ll be demonstrating throughout the day, and by the end, you’ll create your very own finished painting — in that free, expressive Impressionist style.

This workshop is a lovely mix of learning and doing, with time to play, explore, and get stuck in with paint. No pressure — just a chance to build confidence and enjoy painting in a way that feels fun and free.

Materials to Bring
Materials aren’t included but I will send you a full materials list of colours to bring. If you would like to use my paints there will be an additional charge of £10. I will provide use of table easels, palettes and water pots.

You are welcome to use acrylics or oils. If you are using oils please ensure you use odorless turps.

About the Tutor

Hi, I’m Michelle — a painter and art tutor with over 20 years of experience painting, and more than a decade teaching both in-person and online. Since 2010, I’ve had the joy of helping hundreds of students grow in confidence, loosen up their brushwork, and find their own way with paint.

I know how frustrating learning to paint can feel — I’ve been there too. There’s so much information out there. That’s why my approach is all about making things simple, fun and encouraging, without pressure or overwhelm.

Whether you’re picking up a brush for the first time or you’ve been painting for years, I’m here to guide you. I’ll help you understand the ‘why’ behind the techniques, and give you space to explore, experiment and enjoy the process.

My goal is always the same: to help you paint with more freedom, more confidence, and a whole lot of joy.
