Painting Winter Landscapes Workshop

Painting Winter Landscapes Workshop

In Person Class

Join me in embracing the enchantment of winter through this captivating workshop dedicated to painting snowy winter scenes. Throughout this experience, we will delve into the art of capturing the serene beauty of winter landscapes, focusing particularly on the creation of stunning shades of grey and the infusion of vibrant colours into shadows. Winter bestows upon us the gift of a low-hanging sun, which casts mesmerising shadows that add depth and allure to our compositions. Together, we will explore techniques and strategies to masterfully depict these captivating elements, allowing our artwork to convey the unique atmosphere and ethereal qualities of winter’s embrace whilst using bold and loose brushstrokes.

In this workshop we will cover:

  • Famous artists that have painted winter scenes
  • How to effectively paint shadows (not using black!)
  • How to use bold brush marks
  • Basic colour theory
  • How to create an underpainting
  • Complete a small painting as shown on this page

A Note from The Tutor

‘While winter is often associated with dreary rainy days, it is important to recognise the inherent beauty that can be found during this season, particularly when snow graces the landscape. In our workshop, we will embark on a journey to discover the captivating allure of shadows and explore the enchanting realm of snowy winter scenes. It is worth noting that one of my dedicated students has even transformed her paintings into heartfelt Christmas cards. So, let us come together in this workshop, celebrating the wondrous potential that winter holds and unlocking the artistic magic that lies within its snowy embrace.’ Michelle Gibbs
